How YEP became YCP
This is the first time we try the YCP in action, lately MS-Nepal chose to
make some changes to the YEP, to make it more result oriented.
YEP was
earlier centred on letting people from different cultures meet,
experiencing each others differences and similarities and exchanging views
and knowledge. In this kind of a program the work wasn’t as important as
the fact that they were working together – learning about each other! This
was a good program for the Danes, who learned much about Nepalese culture,
but it lead to very few changes for the Nepalese people involved.
So to solve these problems the YEP has now been changed to the YCP.
It has now
changed focus from concentrating and fulfilling the needs of the Danes, to
concentrating on the partners and their needs.
Within the
program there were problems too:
-
Language
barriers, that sometimes made the interaction between the people very
hard.
-
Dominating
Danes (in the YEP there was a larger number of Danish people than
Nepalese)
Now the number
of Nepalese should equal the number of Danes and at each YCP there should
be participants from the MS-partner organisations. MS has chosen six
different organisations whom they hope to work with to make three YCP-work
camps per year!
The YCP
focuses on information, - awareness raising and documentation activities,
that should provide the involved partners with new inputs and ideas on how
to strengthen their efforts in their home organisations.
As for the
Danes they get new experience in organisational work and learn much about
the partners’ work and difficulties, which should motivate them to take up
organisational work when returning to Denmark.
YCP’s main
goal is to empower young people, to make them stronger and sure about
their own goals, and as MS calls them the Angel of Changes – they are
responsible for the future.
Whether the new and improved YCP is a success is yet not known, it is
still only 15 days old!
