Diary
2nd to 13th July
Monday the 2nd of July we seven met at the MS-Guesthouse. It was very
exciting to see the people we’d be spending the next seven weeks with.
At first we did a name game, just to learn all the names, but because of
all the different types of names, we ended up doing the game MANY times –
now on the 13th of July we finally seem to remember them all.
The first two days was spent in Kathmandu, where we got to know the group
and went sightseeing in Thamel.
On the 4th of July we went to Norbulingka, a Tibetan refugee camp, outside
of Kathmandu. We went around the camp and saw the factory (carpet) and the
monastery.
We have now been in Norbulingka for nine days and already feel at home
here. We all live with Tibetan families and get a good look into the life
of Tibetan culture, food, humour and troubles.
These past five days have been concentrated on training (learning how to
make a newsletter and brochure – so we can use it later on to promote the
tour group, restaurant group and human-rights group) in Norbulingka. There
have been different speakers from BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation),
Spotlight Weekly Magazine and NPI (Nepal Press Institute).
In the class we also learned how to interview and how to take photographs.
We tried both things when we interviewed some people at the old age home
in Norbulingka, to collect information about their lives to an article.
Our days are packed with training activities, but we get off days also.
During one such off day we went to the celebration of His Holiness the
Dalai Lama’s 66th birthday – which was a big experience for us. The next
day we got blessed by a High Lama, so many people were there to meet him,
so we almost didn’t get the blessing!
The next days we’ll spend making the first brochures, which will be very
exciting we hope.
