Diary
15th  to 19th July

15th July 2001 Norbulingka

Today both the brochure groups almost finished their work. The restaurant group has already written everything for the brochure, now they only need to take pictures to make the brochure more attractive.

The tour group is also done with the content. They too need to take pictures now. They want to use pictures of the carpet factory, daycare center and of tourists.

Actually the plan was to take the pictures for the restaurant brochure today. The group had decided on getting the pictures of the cooks with their uniforms and in front of the food they had prepared. But the weather conditions made it impossible for the group to take the pictures. The brochures are expected to be finished by the evening.

The newsletter group is all set to work now. They are working on human rights issues. The group has divided work amongst themselves and are busy taking interviews for articles.

Each group has a number of persons working together as a team.
The Tour group has Regine, Ivalu, Jaya, and Sonam working together. Similarly, the restaurant group consists of Angutimmarik, Sophie, Gokarna, Jampa, while Steffen, Elin, Mitra, Tashi, Mickey are working on the newsletter.

Besides this there is also a pagemaker group, they design the newsletter and the brochures. Their group consists of Anne, Anil, Uttam and Deepak.

All the participants are busy working in their group during the day. Everyone meets with the facilitator at 4:30 to evaluate the day’s work and come up with new ideas.

16th July, 2001

The brochures are done and have gone to the page maker group. Now the two groups have combined to make a recipe book. Their project is to make a recipe book for the Norbulingka Restaurant group.

The recipe book will contain recipes of traditional Tibetan cooking. This book is going to be a bit different than the rest in the market. The participants have decided to add a little bit of color by writing about the tradition, the festivals and culture on Tibet too.
The newsletter group have finished a couple of articles, including human rights and sports articles. Steffen from the newsletter group have written about the sport activities around the Tibetan camp, while Elin have interviewed Katja (Danish developing worker) from MS about the YCP project (Youth Cooperation Program). Mickey from the group have also made an article about refugees and their rights.

And final Mitra have made a article about Tibetan human rights where he interview an old lady (Sonam Luckchung) from the senior resident in the Tibetan camp.

As yesterday all the participants are very busy today working with their projects. 4:30 same time as yesterday everyone meets and evaluating their work with the facilitator.

17th July 2001 Norbulingka

Today the recipe group have started their work with the contents for the recipe book. They had brainstorming session on how to go about designing it.

The newsletter group is making corrections where it needs to be done. Steffen from the newsletter group is helping out with the recipe group also. The recipe group is quite busy working with the recipes and the tradition and culture so any backup from the rest of the camp is more than welcomed.

Beside that the day today is very similar to the rest of the days. The groups are very busy and they are working very hard to keep their deadlines.

Information about Pokhara and Bardiya was also given to the YCP today. All of us are visiting Pokhara after the training is finished. we are looking forward to it.

18th July 2001 Norbulingka

All the groups were quite busy doing their work. The restaurant group was all set to take pictures of traditional Tibetan food like dumpling and vegetable curry. The boys working in the restaurant were asked to dress up and pose for pictures. But unfortunately the pictures didn't come out so well. now they have to take the pictures again.

The tour group is also working earnestly. They took pictures of the carpet factory , kindergarden and also of the camp. Their work is almost finished.

The newsletter group has also already finished writing and are busy correcting their work. The rain is making it difficult for two brochure groups to get the pictures they want.

Work is also going on in the recipe book. Everyone is busy pouring over books trying to find interesting facts to write about Tibet. The recipe book is going to be special. It is not only going to contain recipes but some historical and cultural facts on Tibet also.

19th July 2001 Norbulingka

Today the groups are meeting as usual. 9:00a.m. they meets at the Norbulingka office. The groups are making their plans for the day with the facilitator, asking for ideas and showing new ideas for the facilitator.

After the meeting the groups are returning to their bases to continue their work. But around 10:30a.m. and 11:00a.m. there is a power shutdown and it makes it difficult to work for all of the groups. The problem is that it is necessary for the groups to use the computers for their work. And because of the shutdown everyone is pleased to do the handwriting. Now everything is done by handwriting, the working process is very slow.

All the work is late because of the power shutdown. The tour and restaurant group cannot take the necessary pictures for the brochures, the digital camera needs to be recharged. The groups are working even harder with they work. They are busy keeping their deadlines, now without computers.
