New
Programme Officers
|

Renuka Gurung |
Two new programme officers have joined MS Nepal.
Renuka Gurung and Ganga Parajuli have been assigned with MS Nepal
as programme officers, responsible for liaisons with partners
in the Midwestern - and the Western region respectively.
Both have taken up work and are now in the midst of an orientation
programme, familiarizing themselves with the whole team of MS
Nepal and MS values.
Before joining MS Nepal, 36 year old Renuka Gurung worked for
CREHPA, Center for research on environment, health and population
activities – a national level research organisation. There, she
was involved in a public education and advocacy programme against
unsafe abortion. Prior to this, she has – amongst other jobs with
NGOs - been working as a programme officer on women activities
at WWS, a local NGO in Humla.
Renuka Gurung looks forward to work with cross cutting issues
of pluralism, gender and dalits. Learning new things is a big
motivating factor for her and in her previous work she was primarily
doing research on health related issues.
When asked about her strong and weak points, Renuka Gurung mentions
her own ability to adjust quickly, her teamwork skills and her
friendly approach. Sometimes however, she finds herself a bit
too trustful and stubborn.
Renuka Gurung holds a Master degree in Botany and another Master’s
in sociology from Tribhuvan University. She is married and has
a daughter of three and an eight month old son. Renuka Gurung
is an avid music and film fan, her favorites being Titanic, Gandhi
and Devdas.

Ganga Parajuli |
Ganga
Parajuli is veryexperienced in working with people from many different
backgrounds. In her first job with SNV her counterpart was Dutch.
Later on, when she joined United Mission to Nepal her co-workers
came from Africa, America and Europe. Her most recent job was
with Livelihood Forestry Programme.
Working with poor and marginalized people throughout her professional
career has been a great pleasure and a privilege for Ganga Parajuli,
who strongly believes that the statistics about how many people
live below the poverty line in Nepal are too low.
“Being born into a middleclass family in Bhairahawa, you don’t
get to see the real Nepal. My jobs in the development field have
given me knowledge about my country and people – I have had a
chance to see the whole truth and at the same time learn about
other cultures. This diversity pleases me,” she says.
Ganga Parajuli has studied two years in Norway and holds an Norvegian
Masters degree in nature resource management and a Master in sociology
from Tribhuvan University. She likes books and lists her three
most recent readings as Hillary Clinton’s biography, Poverty and
SAARC – an in depth analysis of poverty in South Asia, Sustainable
Livelihood Approach – a book she found very useful.
Ganga Parajuli is married and has a son of 9 years. Her husband
is an engineer and works for the Ministry of local development
in a Helvetas programme.
Mentioning her strong and weak points, she can’t help but think
that she sometimes is too straight forward and not so patient.
On the other hand she calls herself visionary and a good team
mobilizer.
The team of MS Nepal welcomes the two new programme officers and
looks forward to working with them.
