Introduction

Samaj Sewa Doti (SSD) was established in Silgadhi, Doti in 1991 by a group of energetic youths with social service motives. The main objective of SSD has been to empower and uplift the socio-economic status of the rural poor and disadvantaged communities in Doti through various self-help promotion programmes. SSD has thus been involved in different social activities for more than ten years. Besides, SSD has actively supported local community groups in self-help promotion and has conducted varies types of vocational trainings, informal education, awareness and health programmes with support of Doti municipality, government line agencies and INGOs. Furthermore, SSD has conducted sustainable soil management and forest conservation programmes at the community level.

MS-Nepal entered its partnership with SSD in 2000. Following a one-year Early Partnership Programme, a long-term partnership began in April 2001 with focus on institutional and organizational capacity building of SSD as well as of approximately five local NGOs and community based organisations in Doti district.
