Introduction
Dalit
Welfare Organisation (DWO) was founded and registered on August
16, 1994. The DWO has 7 founding members following the government
requirements and a total of 450 members including 150 women
members. At present DWO works in the following 17 district
branches in Nepal: Banke, Bardia, Dang, Salyan, Surkhet, Dailekh,
Jumla, Mugu, Argakhanchi, Kaski, Dhading, Lalitpur, Ramechhap,
Okhaldhunga, Sindhuli, Sunsari and Morang. Women's participation
is made compulsory at all levels.
DWO
is an organization set up by Dalits working for the benefit of the
Dalits. DWO follow two strategic approaches in improving the
status of Dalits. The first is advocacy and awareness raising
through literacy classes, radio and television programs, print
media campaigns and organizing cultural events. Supporting the
advocacy and awareness raising is the parallel implementation of
income generation activities such as save and credit schemes and
skills development focusing on learning modern techniques of the
traditional craftsmanship of the Dalits.
