Examples of activities carried out under the DEO Doti partnership in 2003

Special needs education (disability) programme

• Sign language training for resource teachers and caretakers

• Orientation programme on special needs education methodologies and practices conducted for resource teachers

• Organisation of meetings for resource teachers and DEO staffs to discuss how to improve teaching of children in general and of disabled children specifically

• Training for parents and caretakers on how to take care of disabled children

• Carpentry training for five young deaf persons

Organisational strengthening

• Improvement of DEO planning and management of the general school programme as well as of the special needs education programme.

• Provision of equipment for DEO (telephone line, computer, printer) and training for local staffs on how to use and maintain it

• Organisation of regular meetings and workshops for DEO staffs on how to ensure good coordination and communication between DEO, teachers and school children
