Introduction 

CWD is a newly formed local NGO by the groups of women, which were once beneficiaries of the WLIP programme under the cooperation of MS Nepal and Nari Bikash Kendra until 1996. It is one of the examples of MS programme impact at the beneficiaries level of empowerment. The women beneficiaries of the WLIP programme are able to fight against their exploitation. 

The main aim of CWD is to create an exploitation free society and improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the women in the area. 

CWD is guided by a board of 11 members elected among 318 general members. Each member has a voting rights and to stand for election, which is different from NBK. The target beneficiaries of the joint partnership programme are about 600 poor women from 7 villages of 3 district- Banke, Bardia and Surkhet.

Objectives

  • To work for promoting goodwill among women towards the nation and nationalism and making them self-reliant
     

  • To encourage women’s participation in the country’s development process 
     

  • To run adult literacy classes for increasing women literacy 
     

  • To encourage women to take part is social works
     

  • To promote the level of awareness of women as to eliminate social malpractice
     

  • To promote health and sanitation awareness among women 
     

  • To educate women about the importance of family planning, maternity and child welfare and children’ development.

Activities 

To improve women's self-reliance, awareness and abilities and thereby improved the living conditions of poor rural women and their families. 

The partnership intervention programme objective is to uplift and empower the rural women and make them self-reliant through literacy, legal literacy income generation and training.
