About MS Nepal

Print this page

Established in 1986 MS Nepal is the youngest Country Program under Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (Danish Association for International Cooperation). The MS Nepal program is one of the nine MS programs and so far the only in Asia.

MS was known as Danish Volunteer Services and during the early years of its establishment the Country Program contributed to development in Nepal by sending out Danish volunteers to serve in relevant institutions. During the nineties there was a growing realization of the limitations of this approach and, therefore, efforts were made to develop a partnership approach with Danish Development Workers as one of several inputs. This process was not an easy one and it took until the end of the century before we finally managed to develop a country policy fully focused on a partnership approach.

Enabling and empowering the poor and disadvantaged to improve their living conditions is one of our goals. Pursuant to this goal we have adopted cluster approach focusing on some of the poorest districts in the western part of Nepal. A number of new partnerships have been developed with organisations formed by people from marginalized groups in that part of the country. All these organizations are engaged in poverty reduction programmes. This homepage is one way of presenting our partners and not the least to give the marginalized people they are working with a face to the outside world.
